Hijos de Rivera beers

La Estrella de Galicia
A refreshing, clear, golden lager characterised by an elegant balance of hops and malt.
This beer is our tribute to the first generation of the Rivera family. It is the result of recovering the original recipe, the German Pils that was created in our original brewery more than 110 years ago.

- It pairs well with spices such as pepper, saffron, oregano and paprika.
- Particularly suited for high fat cheese (especially goat’s cheese), but also with all types of creamy cheeses.
- Fish dishes with mild sauces or simply baked.

Estrella Galicia Especial
First launched in 1972 under the name “Especial Rivera”, it soon became the company’s hallmark beer.
It is brewed from a special wort at Hijos de Rivera’s only brewery in A Coruña. The master brewers take around a month to produce this beer, 50% of which is used for cold storage.

Estrella Galicia Sin Gluten
Our beer for coeliacs is produced by adding an enzyme to the brewing process for Estrella Galicia Especial that eliminates the gluten protein fraction from malt. The result is a gluten-free beer that guarantees the same sensory characteristics as Estrella Galicia Especial.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Negra
A black beer that is rich in flavour and character. We take full advantage of all the sensory qualities of the malts and hops, but with none of the alcohol. We are experts at brewing beer, but producing an alcohol-free beer like this is a challenge only true master brewers can rise to.
A technique known as vacuum distillation is used to remove the alcohol from the beer. The process uses a vacuum chamber to lower the temperature necessary for the alcohol to evaporate. The aim is to ensure the conservation of all the aromas and flavours of this beer.
INGREDIENTS
Water from the city of A Coruña, the coupage of four malts (Pilsen, Dark, Caramel and Black), Nugget and Sladek variety hops and specially selected Hijos de Rivera yeast.

Estrella Galicia Cerveza de Bodega / 1906 de Bodega
Our two cellar beers are a new take on other famous types of beers such as kellerbier (keller is the German word for “cellar” or “basement”).
The name groups together the Central European beers that were served young, directly from the brewers’ barrels to the drinkers’ tankards. Traditionally, they were drunk in the producers own biergartens.
Rather than a style, this is more a family or type of beer, which could well include the Estrella Galicia Cerveza de Bodega (Pale Kellerbier) and 1906 de Bodega (Amber Kellerbier).
CHARACTERISTCS
Chilled and unpasteurised
The absence of pasteurisation from the brewing process allows all the organoleptic properties of newly brewed beer to come to the fore.
Maintaining the carbonation point
The beer is stored in the cellar tanks in a single-use sterile bag, which prevents it from coming into contact with any gas whilst being served.
This enables the carbonation point achieved on leaving the Hijos de Rivera cellars to remain unaltered throughout consumption.
Conserving the cold chain directly from the brewery cellars
The beer is loaded into our refrigerated tanks. Our own specialised staff transport it to the beer cellars, where it is unloaded into refrigerated tanks with a capacity of 250, 500 and 1,00 litres.
The result is a deliciously refreshing beer served directly from the brewery cellars to the customer’s glass.
Direct to the consumer
Drinkers of cellar beer enjoy a refreshing, full-bodied product with lots of character, served straight from our cellar to their glass. The cold chain remains intact throughout the process and the CO2 content remains unaltered.
Zero packaging waste
Our cellar beer enables us to offer consumers the experience of enjoying different types of beers, safe in the knowledge that they are not generating any packaging waste.

Cerveza de Bodega
An unpasteurised beer delivered straight from our cellars to the point of sale.
The absence of pasteurisation means that the beer has to be transported via a network of specialised refrigerated vehicles driven by our own specialised staff. Refrigeration remains constant in the cellars and the trucks, thanks to the characteristic tanks that also ensure that the carbonation point of the beer on leaving our brewery cellars in unchanged.
Its freshness and these unique characteristics create a series of unique sensory properties that set it apart from other beers.
